"Off The Grid - Doin' It Dylan" - Charlie Daniels Band - A Review

Well, this is different for the Charlie Daniels Band. Some of the
first sessions work on the guitar, that Daniels did when he moved to
Nashville was for Bob Dylan's "Nashville Skyline" album. Charlie was
just supposed to fill in for a day for a guitarist who did not show
up. Dylan wanted Charlie to keep playing, not the guy who didn't show
up. In fact ,Charlie kept playing for him on Dylan's next two albums
done in Nashville. Daniels said that Dylan and him got along and he
was easy to work with. So Charlie thought that He would do a tribute
album for Dylan.

  The sound is refreshing ,acoustic ,bouncy , Daniels vocals sound as
good as ever. For me, I really had always been a fan of Dylan's songs,
but not his versions. Charlie's vocals were mixed loud enough that it
was easy to hear the words and appreciate the meaning of the songs,
Charlie really enunciated the versing well, it showed that He truly
loved the songs, and I really understood the meaning of the songs, for
the first time, plus you can really hear joy in Daniel's singing. The
band is like a folk, bluegrass band, with drums, harmonica, some
mandolin and sweet Dobro. I'm sure that Daniels still misses Taz, the
last member of his original band, who passed away not too long ago.
There is a lot of piano in the mix, in fact , it is one of the
dominant instruments. It is an interesting mix of Dylan songs, Some
upbeat, some serious, a couple sad, really something for everyone to
relate to.

    He starts up with a real upbeat version of "Tangled Up in Blue",
He puts a real interesting fiddle riff in the song to keep it moving.
He does upbeat versions, but serious versions of "Hard Rain Going to
Fall" and "The Times They Are a Changing".

     Daniels said that he learned a lot from playing on Dylan's
recordings that later he learned some things about leading his own
band. Dylan was all about a sense of freedom and letting a musician
play what he wanted to play ,rather than tell him every phrase. Other
songs on the CD are "You are Going to have to serve Somebody", "Just
Like a Woman", and the Manfred Mann Hit,
 "The Mighty Quinn", and I think my favorite is his version of "I
Shall be Released".  Charlie Daniels has become a man who is a hard
worker and a large believer in America and Christianity. And He is not
afraid to say what is on his mind. I honestly was impressed about how
tight his band is on the whole album, and for me, I'll put it on if I
need something to put me in a good mood. See what you think, if this

"Texas, Del Rio, Revisited - Unplugged and Lonesome" - Radney Foster - A Review

This was a great idea and an even better creation. Radney was still getting alot of requests from this CD.and it was out of print so He thought of doing an unplugged version of it. This is Foster's first solo CD after "Foster and Lloyd" broke up. I fell in love with it and know every song on it from the first electric Texas country version of it.

   This is a simple ,but beautiful production. It was recorded in a studio over a weekend, and he had everyone sitting in a circle in the big room of the studio, Really has a great acoustic sound with a pretty impressive guest list. I'm going to list the main players, there were a lot of background singers. One thing I will say, it brings out the same vibe as the original version, plus it has a new song that he just wrote called "Me and John R." on it. Radney does vocals and acoustic guitar, Marty McGuire (Dixie Chicks) fiddle and background vocals, Jon Randall Stewart,acoustic guitar, mandolin,background vocals, Steve Fishell, Dobro and Weisenborn, Brady Black, fiddle on two songs, Michael Ramos, accordion, Wurlitzer,  Matt Borer, percussion and Glenn Fukunda, upright bass.

   The new song "Me and John R." is about his Dad and Johnny Cash. It is an upbeat song, after I read that in the CD cover, the song made sense,a real musical tune with lots of hooks and real pretty acoustic guitar picking and dobro, too.

     I am going to give you a list of the original 10 songs:

"V" -Kenny Vaughn - A Review

I heard this CD for the first time last night, this is a heads up, great CD, one of those that really caught me saying, like , this is great, Kenny has done so much under the radar, known as guitarist for Marty Stuart's Fabulous Superlatives, He is a rare guitarist who is truly as good on acoustic as he is on electric, like Brent Mason and Bryan Sutton in one. TONE,TONe,TOne,Tone,tone. From "Country Music got a hold on me" to "Don't Leave Home Without Jesus", Kenny sparkles with the Superlatives as his backup band and Marty Stuart as his other guitarist.



Kenny has done lots of stuff in his musical career, even a dip in punk music. I first heard Him in a Mindy Smith CD from 04 called "One Moment More". He has done lots of studio work. He spent some time in Lucinda Williams band. He took lessons from Bill Frisell, and went on from there. This record has a lot of flavor of swing in it and even a touch of surf style sound. His guitar playing is sensational in his own way. You really get to hear what he can do, when he is let free. "Wagon Ride" is a mid tempo instrumental that shows Kenny playing at his best, yet doing things in his own style, lots of reverb, real country rock. The lyrics to "The Things I Do" are down to earth and the song sort of shows his style of music. Him and Marty Stuart play very well together. Not many guests on this CD, just the Superlatives and Chris Scruggs, Oak Ridge Boys, Charles Treadway and Jeffrey Clemens.



The last song on the disc, "Don't Leave Home Without Jesus" is a sincere tune about Christ. The overall sound quality is top notch, produced by Gary Paczosa, an icon of Nashville producers. The guy knows how to make an artist sound good. I mean, if you want to hear one of today's best in his own element, This is a CD to get.

March 23, 2011, Nashville, TN - Looking back at the history of music, one can pinpoint those times when change takes place...something new replaces the old. Music that once sounded “like this” suddenly sounds “like that.” In the 1930’s, country music was considered to be the sound of hillbilly string bands. When the music was electrified, a honky-tonk shuffle played with a drummer became the new sound. It was still country.



In the mid-to late 1980s, there was another sea change—a short period of undeniable diversity coming out of Nashville that broke through on country radio. Steve Earle famously referred to it as “the great credibility scare,” a time of creative freedom that’s rarely been seen since. In the thick of that wide-open feeling, the duo of Foster & Lloyd came together and—along with Earle, Dwight Yoakam, Lyle Lovett, Rodney Crowell and others—was a part of the movement that changed the sound of country music and pioneered the Americana movement.



In 1985, Radney Foster and Bill Lloyd were two young singer-songwriters signed to the same song publisher. They came from different backgrounds but had enough in common to create an almost immediate response to the songs they co- wrote and recorded. Their first success came as songwriters, but it was the distinctive sound of their publishing demos that gained them their record deal with RCA Records.



The duo mixed straight up Buckaroo country with jangly-Byrds sounds, looking and sounding a little louder than most of the other country acts of the era. Their first single, the rockabillyish-honky-tonkin’, “Crazy Over You,” shot to the top of the charts, making them the first duo in Country music history to score a No. 1 on their debut single.



Foster & Lloyd also became one of the first acts to be played simultaneously on Country and College radio, sharing common musical ground and press accolades with Rank and File, Lone Justice and the Blasters. The combination of their harmony vocals (recalling everyone from The Everly Brothers to Rockpile) with their self-produced guitar-centric sound and solid, clever song craft won over critics and fans alike.



In the end, they recorded three groundbreaking albums for RCA (containing hits “Sure Thing,” “What Do You Want From Me This Time,” “Texas in 1880” and “Fair Shake,” as well as “Crazy Over You”), toured internationally, garnered a Grammy nomination and were a constant presence at the CMA awards.



The duo split in 1990, with both members going on to successful solo careers. Though they remained friends and wrote together sporadically over the years, it took a request from the Americana Music Association to reunite for a fundraiser to get the duo together again onstage. News that Foster & Lloyd were performing for the first time in 20 years spread like wildfire, and the show sold out in 15 minutes. The band that night included Cheap Trick bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Keith Brogdon, with a guest appearance by bluegrass virtuoso and longtime friend, Sam Bush, on mandolin.



“It was so much fun getting back together onstage, and we realized that the new songs we had written together still had that magic,” says Foster. “We decided to start getting together once a month to write. Soon the songs were pouring out, and we knew we needed to get back in the studio.” Again, like it was in the beginning, they went in to the recording process to please themselves first–let the chips fall where they may.



The result is the new album: It’s Already Tomorrow. Fans of their older records will no doubt hear the familiar blend that only happens when Radney and Bill work together. One might think that after a twenty-year break, the vocal harmonies might creak a little but the duo sounds surprisingly strong from the opening notes. Foster’s voice is strong, deep and resonant throughout the album and you can hear the years of experience in his tone and timbre. Lloyd is still hitting all the high harmonies with style. Their blend is cohesive and is arguably tighter than it used to be.



As before, it’s the guitars that hold center spotlight when it comes to the instrumental aspect of the Foster & Lloyd sound. Lloyd delivers his usual guitar hooks sounding reckless enough to be exciting but melodic enough to be memorable. There are plenty of crunchy guitars to go with the twangy and succinct solos’ that you can hum later. Foster also adds both electric and rhythm acoustic parts to the mix.



From the ringing opening notes of “It’s Already Tomorrow,” the rockin’ twin telecasters of “That’s What She Said,” to the plaintive harmonies of the final acoustic track “When I Finally Let You Go,” the collection is vintage Foster & Lloyd. The duo co-wrote all twelve songs and co-produced the set, which was recorded and mixed by Justin Tocket (known for his work with Marc Broussard, the Randy Rogers band and others) with the same core band of Foster, Lloyd, Petersson and Brodgon. Petersson even joined the duo in co-writing “Lucky Number.”



The duo also put their own spin on an old song, “Picasso’s Mandolin,” which they had written years before with Guy Clark, who recorded it on his Boats To Build album.



Other guests on It’s Already Tomorrow include legendary pedal steel guitarist Lloyd Green, who is featured on “You Can’t Make Love Make Sense” and the Beatle-esque ballad “If It Hadn’t Been For You.” Noted producer and former Emmylou Harris steel guitarist Steve Fishell also played blistering lap steel on “Don’t Throw It Away,” and singer/songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman came by to lend her beautiful voice to “Lucky Number.” After the core combo tracked the album, Radney and Bill recorded one last song, the acoustic-based "When I Finally Let You Go," in Radney's home studio. Bruce Springsteen's E. St. Band bassist, Garry Tallent, was in town visiting and added a nylon string bass part to the recording.



Through all the inventive lyrical twists and turns and crackerjack guitar licks, what comes through loudest is a sense of fun, adventure...and freedom. “Back then, we were concerned with trying to keep ourselves within a radio format,” says Lloyd. “We would try and be different enough to stand out but we didn’t want to color too far outsides the lines. We didn’t have any constraints this time. The sound of this new album is unfettered by formats...either real or imagined.”



Country. Rock n’ Roll. Power-pop. Folk. Americana. Whatever you want to call it, Radney and Bill combined make Foster & Lloyd music.

12th Annual San Francisco Bluegrass and Old-Time festival Coming soon

12th ANNUAL SAN FRANCISCO BLUEGRASS AND OLD-TIME FESTIVAL CELEBRATES PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF AMERICANA AND ROOTS MUSIC




The events of the 12th annual San Francisco Bluegrass and Old-Time Festival (SFBOT) will explore and celebrate the past, present and future of bluegrass and old-time music through performances, dances and workshops. The 10-day festival runs from Feb. 11-20 and comprises more than 30 shows at numerous small clubs around the Bay Area featuring some of the most talented musicians on the Americana and roots music scene today.



Highlights of this year’s festival includes Bay Area favorites such as Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum, The Crooked Jades, the Stairwell Sisters and the Wronglers. Also featured are beloved from outside the Bay Area, such as Dry Branch Fire Squad and Foghorn Stringband. Giving a nod to past, there will be two different celebrations of the bluegrass icons Flatt and Scruggs — the first a performance @ Freight and Salvage featuring an array of musicians paying tribute and a banjo workshop with Cory Goldman titled “Sex, Drugs and Earl Scruggs.”.



And the festival will spotlight some of the best in up-and-coming performers such as 24-year-old Frank Fairfield, who was recently featured on National Public radio for his unique style and approach on fiddle and banjo old-time tunes, the Southern Appalachian Gospel and fiddle tunes of Alex Caton and Pete Winne and the Chicago-based Henhouse Prowlers, who took the top slot at the 2010 Rockygrass Band Competition. A last minute addition to the festival performing on opening night 2/11/11 @ St. Cyprian's Church are The Nashvillains, an acoustic supergroup featuring virtuosos James Nash of The Waybacks on guitar, Bill Evans on banjo, and Bryan Horne from Hot Buttered Rum on bass!



In addition to shows, the festival aims to provide rich experiences for Bay Area residents through workshops, jam sessions, kids shows, Bluegrass and Old-Time in the Schools and the Saturday night old-time square dance (always a sell-out with over 220 attendees)! Each year the Festival showcases the best in rising acts from the West Coast and beyond, with a special spotlight on the immense amount of local talent located right here in the Bay Area.



Thanks to a generous investment from the Chris and Warren Hellman Foundation, the festival committee continues its commitment to the Bluegrass and Old-Time in the Schools program. The program aims to expose elementary and high school students to the worlds of bluegrass and old-time music and continue the legacy of this important music. The Band Perry - A Debut

Well, only a couple of months ago, this young trio of sister with brothers was unheard of. This CD, mostly recorded before they were signed with a label.




This CD is an excellent production, a mixture of country rock, and acoustic sounds with three vocals and excellent musicians. Mostly original songs, Kim Perry and brothers Neil and Reid. They even play instruments on their first CD.



The sound quality is excellent thru out the disc. Their lyrics are very good. Kim has a very special way of enunciating her vocals, they are easy to understand. This CD has hit the Charts heavy at number 11.

, Neil Perry really shines thru on mandolin on several songs. Helpful studio musicians are guitar- Bryan Sutton, Drums - Shannon Forrest, acoustic guitar - Biff Watson ,pedal steel ,Dan Dugmore and Mike Johnson, mastered by Hank William @ mastermix. Sorry, many artists left unnamed .



Favorite songs = You Lie, Hip To My Heart, If I Die Young, Heart, Quittin You, and Postcard From Paris. "If I Die Young" is an incredible debut song, very good since it is self written. These guys are really good at everything they do!!

Husband/Wife Duo Hit The Big Apple for Album Number Two Media

Nashville, Tenn. (September 10, 2010) -- The famous line “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore” couldn’t have been more appropriate for Rory Feek, hit songwriter and half of the successful husband/wife country music duo Joey+Rory. The overall clad native from Atchison, Kansas landed in New York City yesterday with wife Joey for a few days of media appearances and performances to promote their sophomore CD
Album Number Two which comes out Tuesday, September 14th. Interviews and performances with several national outlets included NBC, CBS, Better TV,
Ladies Home Journal, Westwood One Radio and People Magazine - Country Edition.
Tomorrow morning, the couple will perform two songs outside on the Plaza for CBS Early Show. “To Say Goodbye” during a 9/11 dedication and their current single “This Song’s For You.”

“I’m told it’s fashion week here so I’m not quite sure we fit in or if my bibs are appropriate attire,” laughs Rory. “But everyone is so nice and we are surprised at how many country music fans are in the big city. We are a long way off from our farm house in Pottsville, Tennessee but it’s been a great experience.”

Ladies Home Journal prepared one of the items served at Marcy Jo’s, the restaurant Joey owns with her sister-in-law and the couple “taste tested” the results. Brian Wampler is one of the best guitar pedal makers around, I am a proud owner of his ego compressor compressor which is a ross like Nashville compression pedal. These names were from a sort of joke web site someone made up of pedals, The ego compressor, Now it is the talent booster, it may not boost your talent, but you will get some great tones from this pedal, i love the sound of this boost.

"Ghost Train, (The Studio B Sessions) - A review

Coming this month, is one of the most classic country recordings that I have heard in a while, Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives are just as good as a bluegrass band or country band. Recorded in historic RCA Studio B, The disc even has that info encoded. The title track "Ghost Train For-Oh -Ten" has that country train song vibe to it. Kenny Vaughn plays some great electric guitar riffs that are quick, focused and make you want to dance.

"Hard Working Man" (Marty Stuart) is a slow country ballad that talk about the plight of the hard working man. Excellent vocals and great old-timey pedal steel by Ralph Mooney. Good solo by Vaughan. BTW, the rest of the Superlatives are Harry Stinson on drums and Paul Martin on Bass. Four different pedal steel players are used, Ralph Mooney,Kayton Roberts,Gary Carter, and Robby Turner. There are some sparse strings in the background. Ralph Mooney plays a solo of his "Crazy Arms" on pedal steel after being asked by Marty. He really nails the song. "Porter Wagoners Grave" is a classic country talk song that Stuart does a very emotive job at performing, while the band plays quietly in the background. If Marty Stuart is not one of the fine voices of country today, no one is, this song never fails to touch me. The he goes into a melody after the talk part. This is a very touching song.

After this song the band goes into a little Bakersfield sound, 'Little Heartbreaker" , which has some great lyrics, raw guitar pickin', this is good, picture Dwight Yoacum with someone else singing and Vaughn goes into some more great guitar work, minced with pedal steel.

For an ending, they go acoustic and play a bluegrass jam with mandolin, mostly ripping off thru a melody. As the disc starts with a very country rocker "Branded" which has lots of electric guitar , some great country hooks, and more pedal steel. This band rocks, sounding a bit like Radney Foster. My favorite song is "Country Boy Rock and Roll" - Kenny Vaughan plays some of the hottest guitar playing that I ever heard, He plays right along with the melody of the song and goes plain nuts at end.(Whew) The cover is retro back and white of a train comin' a you. This is Marty at his best.

"Tears ,Lies and Alibis" - Shelby Lynne - A Review

This is a bit of a new sound for Shelby and she produced it, sounds a bit like "Identity Crisis" ,which she also recorded partly.
She wrote all ten songs here and there is a variety of acoustic ,jazz like, with some interesting lyrics and melodies.

This CD has areal mellow vibe to it. "Old Dog" - She sings this with some sarcastic lyrics. She plays some sweet syncopated rhytmn guitar.

"Alibi" is a different type of Cheating song, about a guy and his Alibi. "Home Sweet Home" is a very good acoustic song, with a real sweet sound, thanks Doug Sax and mastering lab. "Home sweet Home" has mostly just her on it.

"Why Didn't you call me?" This is a very good jazzy sounding tune, with some horns. This was engineered by Brian Harrison and she helped. "Something To Be Said About Airstreams" - I love this song, she really has good lyrics in this recording. Just a real audiophile sound and a song that has a great groove.

"Rains Came" has the most electric guitar on it, yet nothing loud, just some quiet licks, This was mastered by Doug SaX and his assistant @ The Mastering Lab,

Rural Rhythm Records is very proud to announce the upcoming new album by Steve Gulley and Tim Stafford. “DOGWOOD WINTER” is comprised of all original songs by this award-winning songwriting team. The first single, “Just Along For the Ride” is being serviced to radio and available now via Airplay Direct.

Gulley and Stafford’s songs have been recorded by many artists over the years including “Through the Window of a Train,” winner of the 2008 IBMA Song of the Year, and recorded by Blue Highway. “While Steve and I have been fortunate to have quite a few songs cut by various artists over the years, this record began as a vehicle to get our songs out there that—with one exception--hadn’t been previously recorded. We picked 14 of our best tunes that we felt would be a good cross-section of our work, and the record, from the beginning was going to be all about the song. Since most were bluegrass, we decided to enlist our friends Adam Steffey, Ron Stewart, and Justin Moses to help Steve and I lay down grass tracks that would highlight those songs. Our tastes are eclectic, and we ended up having two tunes that needed arrangements that featured percussion from Mark Laws and, in the case of Nebraska Sky, Michael Alvey’s great piano playing. Dale Ann Bradley added the heavenly harmonies where we needed a trio with a female,” said Stafford. Tim Stafford is a current and founding member of award-winning Blue Highway – a band continuing to celebrate significant success with all five original members in tact.

Gulley also explains the origin of “DOGWOOD WINTER” saying, “This recording project is, quite simply, two good friends and writing partners recording some of their songs in the way they heard them when they were originally written. It was truly a great experience to record and create a collection of music that was all original. Tim has been my primary writing partner for years - as well as a one of my best friends. Besides being a good friend and collaborator, Tim is one of best musicians on the planet, so it was really cool to finally get to work with him in the studio on our own project. I think this a singer-songwriter record in every sense of the word. There’s traditional bluegrass, country-flavored tunes, middle-of-the road ballads and stripped down arrangements with just guitar and vocal. It’s a wide variety of styles but has one underlying theme or focus – the songs themselves.” Gulley is a current and founding member of the award-winning band, Grasstowne who also have a new album releasing on Rural Rhythm later this year.

GAC Three Hour Relief Concert for Nashville Flood

Search Amazon.com for lady antebellum This Three Hour televised concert from the Ryman Auditorium was a winner for me and I think that a lot of folks that hate Nashville Country music would at least like it, if they saw this side of country music. First off, it is a very stripped back affair, mostly acoustic and the full band songs were not as full of effects and the pageantry usually associated with a Country concert.

Brad Paisley's wife and actor James Denton were the hosts of the show. There were celebrities manning the phones and a lot of flood footage during songs, but the music ruled.
Brad came running out ,starting the show with "Welcome To The Future", you could tell that folk did not have their usual road bands so a lot sung solo or with the house band. The drummer on Paisley's first song was great, really keeping a groove, and it seemed that Brad was happy letting other guys play lead guitar some since he did not have his effects, just a Dr Z amp with what looked like one pedal on top. He usually has a full rack with several pedals which were all destroyed in the flood. Dierks Bentley played with him on another song "American Saturday Night" and Brad was having fun playing, talking to the audience.

Martina was there singing about 3 or 4 songs and sounded very good. The crowd seemed to get the most excited when Keith Urban came out and did 2 acoustic songs, The first,"The Beatles -Help", which came out well. Then He did an upbeat version of an original song. He got the crowd involved in the song.

A couple of Nascar drivers showed up with the Head of Nascar to show their Support. The artists were really good at picking their songs and usually picked one out of their repertoire intended for encouragement. Some artists just showed up to man the phones ,and not even do a song.

New Nashville native Kebmo was there with another guy playing banjitar with him. He played a very appropriate song and sounded quite good. Two Christian artists who make Nashville their home did a song, CeCe Winans and Jaci Velasquez. They both were very good.

Sheryl Crow came out and did one new song that she had written on piano by herself. She talked about how much Nashville felt like home to her.

Kellie Pickler showed up for a song and some phone time, You know, this young lady is really doing herself well, she just has a great way about her and a good attitude. She sang a song with a couple of acoustic guitarists which came off real well.

I have always kind not liked Lady Antebellum, I guess for their super slick productions or some dumb thing, but their live appearances really won me over, They really got a large crowd reaction during their performances. They harmonize so well even live and their lo key demeanor can really win you over. What a vocal performance!!

All in all, This was very well done, and I think it really showed the good parts of Nashville and what The volunteer state is all about. They raised 2 million dollars for the surrounding 52 counties that need help, just a dent, but a good dent. It was hard to get thru on the phone lines, They showed the show back to back, and I got thru about a half hour into the second showing, and now I could kick myself, cause I talked to a nice sounding lady named Nicole, who was probably Nicole Kidman, because she was helping on the phones. Why couldn't I have at least asked?? A lot of people hung up om Brad Paisley who was on the phones alot.

Van Ghost Finishes first week of Recording with Justin Niebank

Chicago, IL – February 17, 2010. Van Ghost has finished its first week of recording with Justin Niebank, producer and engineer on two “Album of the Year” Grammy winners, Taylor Swift and Vince Gill. Niebank’s credits also include artists as diverse as Blues Traveler, John Mellencamp, Daughtry and Kenny Chesney.

After making its live debut to a packed house at Chicago's revered Metro in January 2008, Van Ghost released Melodies For Lovers to much critical acclaim. The band, led by charismatic singer-guitarist Michael Berg, went on to perform sets at 2009’s Rothbury Festival, opened for Company of Thieves at Wicker Park Fest, went on tour with Nershi-Law and played the Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Fest, alongside Dr. Dog and Bela Fleck.

Nashville-based producer Justin Niebank got his start recording for Alligator Records in the 1980s and has gone on to produce, engineer and/or mix albums for some of the top names in country, pop and rock, including Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Rob Thomas and Leftover Salmon. He works frequently at Nashville’s Castle Studios, which opened its doors in 1981 and is housed in an amazing compound that was built in the late 1920s and once served as a hideout for Al Capone!

Niebank and Van Ghost, whose lineup includes backing vocalist Jennifer Hartswick, guitarist Grant Tye (Robbie Fulks band),pedal steel player,Rocco Labriola, bassist Klem Hayes and drummer Greg Marsh, will return to Castle Studios in April, once Hartswick finishes touring with Trey Anastasio of Phish. Niebank’s project partner, record company executive Timm Martin, was responsible for putting the current band lineup together and is working toward releasing the first single and video in early summer, 2010.

Lou Reid and Carolina hit #1 on BMP

The new album, “MY OWN SET OF RULES” by Lou Reid and Carolina hit the #1 spot on this month’s Bluegrass Music Profiles Magazine (BMP) Top 10 albums and also made its debut at #11 on the Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine (BU) Top 15 album chart. The single, “Amanda Lynn” is #9 on the BMP Top 30 Singles and jumped five spots to reach #20 on the BU Top 30 Singles also this month.




“The bluegrass genre is always one that is interesting for its combination of styles and musicianship and Lou Reid and Carolina have given fans a modern twist on the foundation of bluegrass while keeping the traditions well in tact on My Own Set Of Rules,” said Today’s Country Magazine.





Lou Reid and Carolina will be a guest of SIRIUS-XM Radio Host, Kyle Cantrell on the Bluegrass Junction Track by Track show on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11:00 am EST and rebroadcast Thursday, November 19 (9:00 EST) and Sunday, November 22 (11:00 am EST) featuring “My Own Set of Rules.” The album was produced by Lou Reid, and also includes band members, Christy Reid, Shannon Slaughter, Trevor Watson, with special guest Ron Stewart on fiddle.



During last month’s International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) World of Bluegrass convention, Lou joined fellow Rural Rhythm artists for a VIP Showcase where he performed “Carolina in the Pines” with Michael Martin Murphey and Audie Blaylock. He also took part in a performance of “Graves Mountain Memories” and the announcement of the upcoming Rural Rhythm Records 55 Year Celebration at the Graves Mountain Festival of Music. Lou Reid and Carolina will perform at this live recorded event to be held on June 4, 2010.
