Nashville, TN (November 16, 2010) – Each year, The Oak Ridge Boys’ Christmas tour plays to packed houses across America. This year The Boys Are Back for Christmas Tour will take the group to 18 states and 29 cities, mid-November through December 22. For the first time in ten years The Oak Ridge Boys will be bringing their Christmas show back home to Nashville and are doing so at the newly renovated Gaylord Opryland Resort on December 21.



The two-hour extravaganza features a mixture of traditional and contemporary songs—including religious, romantic, and fun holiday tunes—as well as the group’s classic Country-Pop hits, likeElvira, American Made, andThank God For Kids. The full-production show features beautiful sets, falling snow, and a visit from Santa Claus, and it includes songs from the Oaks’ five bestselling Christmas CDs.



The Boys are thrilled to be ending their holiday tour in Nashville. “It’s such an honor to play the last day of our tour this year in our hometown. It will provide a great opportunity for all of our local friends, fans and family to celebrate Christmas with The Oak Ridge Boys,” The Oaks’ Joe Bonsall explains, “we have been doing a full out Christmas tour since 1988, and since we last brought the tour to Nashville, our children have grown and we all have grandkids. The Boys are back home for Christmas in Nashville at Opryland…I’m not sure how it gets any better!”

"Are You The One" - Guy Penrod - Single Review

This is a single from Guy Penrod's debut country CD "Breathe Deep". Singles are fun to review, you just get into one song, not 12 or 15. This is a fine sounding Nashville Country song, produced by Brent Rowan who probably plays electric guitar on the CD too.
Being his first single puts a lot of pressure on it. Guy has sang 14 years with the Gaither Vocal Band, a household name in Gospel Bands. So, Penrod decides to step away from this group and sing on his own. Well, the lyrics to this song, really make you think about yourself, written by (Tammy Hyler and Shaye Smith). It is a very familiar sounding song with the typical "A call" studio musicians in Nashville playing on the disc with Brent producing it. Penrod has a very nice voice with the help of Wes Hightower on vocals. Give this a listen, there is a message here for you and me.

Mountain Heart - Live At Sellersville Theatre, Sellersville, Pa.- A Review

Mountain Heart has been around quite a while as an excellent bluegrass band, they are in the process of changing into a country rock, Southern rock jam band, The newest member, Josh Schilling, has sang and played with several types of bands, and I read he has a separate project on the side, which would not surprise me. This is exciting, I thought I was going to a bluegrass show last and it turned into a jam session with several cover songs, some new songs for the new CD that they are working on, They are looking for a label, but their manager Brian says they are going on with or without a label, they can get some Distribution help and keep on Touring. They are already working on the CD. He gave me a three song demo CD, I can't let anyone hear it, but He said I can tease folk about. Here's a tease for ya, if your good, I will give you another tease at end of review, This CD has drums on it.

I got to Sellersville Theatre right after the first act was done (Fitzmaurice), heard they were good, from the nice couple behind me, This guy sent me some nice pics tonight,I had asked him if He would, and he did, will see if I can add a couple to the review, when it goes on CSO.

A little about Mountain Heart, in a big way ,this is a shame, I sampled some of their stuff, they have a real big discography. They have been a big bluegrass band, making lots of great songs. But on the other hand, When I talked to Jim Van Cleve He is excited about it. They know how great that Josh Schilling is, There is a great chemistry in the group, everyone plays together. Josh Schilling could take them places. He is a great singer, his vocals are so mature and strong, heard a youtube of him singing the national anthem with the rest of the group. He is an incredible keyboard player, reminds me of a young Chuck Leavell.(Who can sing and play guitar)

I really was not prepared for what I heard last night. I was expecting a show like the Ark,
but I got like a professional cover band. They started out playing an instrumental. It was good, one of the many short ones the group does. After that, the small crowd in the front started chanting, Louder!! Louder!! , Well, The Mountain Heart sound guy complied. From then on, it was real loud. The room right behind me, the rest of the Theatre that was empty
was loud, but the room had lots of noise, which made the signal midrangey.

Next, I heard a very familiar bass thump and the ride began as Jason Moore, on bass played the intro to "Whipping Post" by the Allman Brothers. They virtually nailed the song note for note, in an acoustic way. The hi guitar parts were played by Jim on fiddle. The difference is Josh slows it down in the middle and does some sct singing with it.He is on electric piano here. Aaron Ramsey , their new mandolin player really is a great player and adds alot to the show.

They did an accapello gospel number and I thought it was weird that 2 members went into the side stage.

The show was pretty much focused on the very talented Josh Shilling , who has a great voice, is a great guitarist and played a lot of electric piano this night. I'm listening to the Ark show as I write this, The group seemed more focused that night, tonight ,they are sort of p rowling the stage. I also miss Barry's ongoing dialog with the crowd at the Ark.

The band jams on and on, and for a while, they settle down and do a few really nice songs. All of which will be on the new CD. They do a real nice version of Bruce Hornsby's "That's Just the Way it Is" , That one really caught me off guard as it is just plain rock music.
Also, "Very Superstitous" with some wah, caught me off guard. I did notice some people leave during the show, as they were expecting bluegrass, I mean, we are in a small town, in rural, Pa. This is a country/bluegrass group venue where the group is playing mostly rock and jam oriented music. They ended with more jamming, and left the stage, I mean, you knew they were coming back. Pretty soon, Josh and the bass player Jason come back and and Josh sits at the keyboard for another Allman brothers song, a newer one "Soul Shine".

And that was it, that's just the way it goes. The group sticks around and sign some Cds and stuff, I talk to Brian and JIm, very nice, down to earth group. I'm looking forward to this new CD.

The landmark new release includes a virtual “Who’s Who” of Grammy, Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music award-winning artists. Nashville, TN – Today, Judy Nelon, Southern Gospel Music Guild (SGMG) President and on behalf of the SGMG Executive Board, announced The Oak Ridge Boys as the 2010 recipients of the SGMG President's Honor during the SGMG Harmony Honors at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel on April 19, 2010. All four members of The Oak Ridge Boys - Duane Allen, Joe Bonsall, William Lee Golden, and Richard Sterban – will be in attendance to accept this honor.

“I fondly recall having the opportunity of presenting a Gospel Music Award to the Oak Ridge Boys in Los Angeles, California in 1973. It just happened to have been Joe Bonsall’s first week with the group. Now, thirty-seven years later, it is such a privilege to present the prestigious SGMG President's Honor to this same amazing group, consisting of Duane Allen, William Lee Golden, Richard Sterban and Joe Bonsall in recognition of their long successful career and significant contributions to the field of southern gospel music,” says Nelon.

The Oak Ridge Boys continue to make new music and entertain millions of fans. With numerous Gold and Platinum albums, they have also enjoyed more than a dozen Number One singles and over 30 Top Ten hits with over 30 million records sold throughout their illustrious 40 year career. With talents that have long been recognized by their peers, this Grammy Award winning group has also received eight Dove Awards, four ACM Awards, four CMA Awards and are members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. The SGMG Harmony Honors Celebration Concert showcases artists with outstanding accomplishments and award nominations over the past year including Grammy, Dove and Singing News Awards, as well as radio airplay and touring success. The top ten songs of the genre are also recognized. The event will include performances by The Oak Ridge Boys, Jason Crabb, Guy Penrod, Jeff & Sheri Easter, Karen Peck & New River, Bowling Family, Gold City, Perrys, Blackwood Brothers, Tribute Quartet and more.

"My Sisters and Me" - Gold Heart - A review

This young group of sisters playing guitar, fiddle and mandolin along with their sweet three part Appalachian harmonies has put out their third full CD. This CD has a very full and professional sound, it is an excellent job of recording and mastering. The sound quality is as good as any group that has been around like Union Station, or Melonie Cannon. It has a real live feel to it, not a heavily layered type recording, which is hard to find in bluegrass anyway. This album just shimmers with the sound of great acoustic music.

Jocelyn Gold is a teenager who you would never think is playing all of the guitar on this CD. It really sounds like Tyminski or a real seasoned player like Bryan Sutton. She plays some lead guitar parts that plain out sparkle. She is playing a hand made guitar ,made by Mike Long who she has a endorsement with. She also endorses GHS strings and Blue Chip picks. Gold is a very accomplished songwriter , writing ten of the twelve songs on this CD. One song that she wrote "Heavenly Home" is an accapello three part gospel song that is sung so tightly and with so much emotion. Just three vocals and that is it, it sounds great.

These gals are so refreshing ,honestly, if they keep making this Quality of music, I do not know how they can not be successful. Big Sis, Analise plays some great mandolin and has some great singing in the mix too. She does a lot of the emcee duties on the road. She is the band organizer and helps with the song arrangements.

Shelby plays a hot fiddle and adds her lead and harmony vocals as well. Andy Hall(Sugar Hill Records) plays Dobro on most of the songs, this was Dad, Trent's idea. Trent played bass on one song called "Miles" and he is their bass player on the road. Alan Bartram (McCoury Music) plays bass for the rest of the songs on the CD. I love the Christianity and encouragement which is in their songs. One of my favorites by Gold is "Amidst Life's Storms", a great song for encouragement. The more that I listen to Jocelyn's lyrics, the more impressed I am with her writing. Another part of the sound on this CD is the great banjo picking by Aaron Mcdavis (Pinecastle Records).

This type of Bluegrass has a bit more modern type sound to it because of the way it is recorded and it has more of a beat to it than traditional bluegrass. I think that traditional bluegrassers would love these gals. Rural Rhythm has had added lots of new artists in the last couple of years like Carrie Hassler, Melonie Cannon, and they have veteran groups like Mountain Heart and The Lonesome River Band.

Gold Heart has a lot of talent and a big future ahead if they keep at it. They remind me a bit of the Cherryholmes, whose first CD was real good, but they were older and they had a bigger family base, interestingly enough, both groups have Dad play bass for them. They actually remind me more of early Nickel Creek, who is long gone now. But they were a highly talented act, Sara Watkins just put out her first solo CD this year, singer and fiddler for Nickel Creek.

One Song that Jocelyn did not write, "Sister" by Nora Jane Struthers, is really a song that describes them well, sisters helping each other out, a really nice upbeat tune. A really cute song wrtten by another writer is "Chasing Lightning Bugs", which is sort of a mid tempo song that reminds me of Tennessee, on summer evenings. What is accomplished by this CD is hard to do, imparting a certain emotion, and their music has lots of aspects, lyrical talent, instrument accomplishment and also emotion, they really leave a sense of joy with you, as they really seem to love what they are doing, it is not contrived.

Well, I will quit with one more song that I love, The last song on the CD is "Ride Of Your Life", listen to the words of this song, it just shows the girls love for music and following the path their Savior. I have really enjoyed reviewing this and listening to it and I am not done with it. A Great Listen!

Join the Lineup for Birthplace of Country Music’s All-Star Jam


Claire Lynch, David Grier, Mike Compton, Michael Cleveland, Charlie Cushman, and Rob Ickes have been added to the lineup for the Bluegrass All-Star Jam on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at The Paramount Center for the Arts for two shows, an afternoon matinee at 2:30 PM and an evening performance at 7:30 PM.

“We are very excited about these additions to the line-up,” noted Bill Hartley, Executive Director of the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance. Hartley commented that the additions compliment the other artists in the line-up. “Adding Claire Lynch along with Kim Fox, Missy Raines, and Dale Ann Bradley, highlights some of the top female performers in bluegrass music. Mike Compton, Michael Cleveland, David Grier, and Rob Ickes are all multiple IMBA Award winners, as are many of the other artists in the line-up.” Hartley added that Ickes is the most awarded individual player in the history of the IBMA.

Due to inclimate weather, this concert has been re-scheduled from its original date of January 30, 2010. Since the re-scheduling of the concert several of the artists originally billed will not be able to perform due to prior commitments; however, these artists have been replaced by others of equal ability and renown. Artists who were originally scheduled but will not be attending include: Kenny and Amanda Smith, Alan Bibey, and Sammy Shelor. These artists have been replaced with Claire Lynch, David Grier, Michael Cleveland, Mike Compton, Charlie Cushman and Rob Ickes. Those remaining on the roster include Terry Baucom, Dale Ann Bradley, Mike Bub, Kim Fox, Steve Gulley, Adam Haynes, Phil Leadbetter, Justin Moses, Missy Raines, Don Rigsby, and Tim Stafford. Cindy Baucom from the nationally syndicated “Knee-Deep in Bluegrass” and 2005 IBMA Broadcaster of the Year will emcee the show.

Now in its fifth year and previously billed as “Pickin’ at the Paramount,” the Bluegrass All-Star Jam will feature some of the genre’s best artists. This show is the second in the Birthplace of Country Music @ The Paramount Winter Concert Series. The SunnyD Presents Shine All Night Tour Starring Martina McBride & Trace Adkins kicked off before the Thanksgiving holiday and night after night fans and critics praised the unique pairing.

The new album, “MY OWN SET OF RULES” by Lou Reid and Carolina hit the #1 spot on this month’s Bluegrass Music Profiles Magazine (BMP) Top 10 albums and also made its debut at #11 on the Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine (BU) Top 15 album chart. The single, “Amanda Lynn” is #9 on the BMP Top 30 Singles and jumped five spots to reach #20 on the BU Top 30 Singles also this month.

(Nashville, TN - June 24th, 2009) On June 14, legendary artist Charlie Daniels helped the U.S. Army celebrate their 231st birthday at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., courtesy of the Spirit of America Tour. A standing-room-only crowd of 3,000 soldiers enjoyed a 90-minute set from the iconic musician. Founder of the Spirit of America Tour, Robert Rosenthal, was honored during the show for bringing more than 110 shows to military bases in the United States since Sept. 11, 2001. Thousands of military personnel and their families have been treated to private, full production shows at no cost to them through the Spirit of America Tour. Bill Gaither describes the motivation behind this new release, stating, "Over the years, the Oak Ridge Boys have taken gospel music into places I, and most other gospel artists, would have never been invited.

This celebration of their gospel journey was more than just a fun opportunity to hear their gospel favorites ... it was about honoring their deep commitment to their gospel roots. Oak Ridge Boy, Joe Bonsall, also comments, "This is the most exciting time I've ever experienced with the Oak Ridge Boys. I can remember sitting and watching Gaither Homecoming videos on television and being so blessed. Then on my 50th birthday, we were invited to sit in the audience for the Cathedrals Farewell Celebration and I couldn't believe it ... and when we were called to the stage to sing, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! Now, more than 10 years after that video was released, we consider Bill and Gloria and many of our other heroes to be friends.
